1. Ada’s enemies in the novel include Ruth and Lady Thornton. Ada believes Ruth is her enemy because she is German. She digs through her backpack to discover if she is a spy. Ruth and Ada bond over their shared love of horses and eventually, they claim each other as sisters. Lady Thornton is Ada’s enemy because she perceives her as brisk and unhelpful.
